Here’s what we’re aiming for.

After about a 3-hour bus ride from Cairo city, we arrived at this scenery in less than half an hour,

I am just overwhelmed by the beauty of this world.

One of the drivers, Muhammad, who also speaks English, an old friend of Abdallah,

Mr. Muhammad asked me what my religion is, and I told him that Japanese people have a basic Aminist view of religion, and that I am studying Islam because of my experience in Senegal two years ago, and a debate broke out when I said that I do not think animism and Islam are far apart in my mind.

Islam, he says, is not animism at all.
It is not a belief in rocks, rivers, or oceans and their spirits, he says.

That’s for sure. But from what I have studied, God in Islam,
Allah exists in the entire universe and in the blood that flows in our veins.

If that’s the case, then doesn’t Allah exist in all the gross things we call the God of Yaorozu?, I said.

The rest of the group went to bed.
The two of us continued our discussion until the morning mist rose.
