India The Wisdom of Spirit and Body

February 13~March 19, 2020

This time I met Waidia (an Ayurvedic doctor) at Mashallah (Divine Grace).
He was a dignified but quite wise man for 50 years old.

And the Ayurveda food🍊🍉🍌🍋🍆🍍🍇 that he and his wife create, while simple, home-cooked, and tender, just like an extended family meal, and delicious!

After three days of thinking about the future process while being fed with these dishes, I formally offered Ayurvedic treatment. (It was not cheap, even when converted to Japanese yen.)

Even though the food is not particularly organic, it is safe for children because it is simply prepared without chemical seasonings, using ingredients such as salt, spices, and coconut from the neighborhood.

About three weeks, no alcohol, no meat, sometimes fish.
(Sometimes it was very tasteless because the vegetarian did not eat it and was not accustomed to making it.)

Basic vegetables, grains, fruits. And various spices.
The art of transforming the spirit from the body.
Nature is abundant, or rather, in nature!
In this environment and situation, I go to bed at 9 pm and do yoga every day before 6 am, before it gets too hot.

In the midst of such a truly Ayurvedic lifestyle,

What is Veda?

and began to study while practicing.

Excerpts from a booklet in the Amma book I brought, which was a prelude to the book.

First, put aside my own thoughts and get a good context for the theory.

🦚Veda
A noun derived from the Sanskrit verb meaning “to know” and meaning “knowledge.”

Generally used as a generic term for Hindu scriptures.
Teachings passed down orally by rishis (sages).
Wisdom perceived from the universe through practice and devotion.
It is the quintessence of Indian spiritual culture and a guideline for a harmonious way of life to achieve true self-realization = God-realization.

🦚4 Veda
Rig Veda (oldest extant document 1000-1500 BC)
Yajur Veda
Sama Veda
Atharva Veda
(The three above are from 600-700 B.C. Late Vedic period)

These are the core teachings of Sanatar Dharma (Sanskrit for the Law of Truth or the Eternal Way.).

The gist of the teaching is the wisdom that enlightens and guides us to our own inner divinity.

Vedic scriptures are divided into four categories in terms of content

1. Samhita ( Book collection )
2. Brahmana ( Rituals collection)
3. Aaranyaka (Forest Collection)
4. Upanishads (Collection of profound meaning)

It further branched off from there and developed into a basic academic foundation.

Example: The Two Great Epics
Mahabharata Ramayana
(600-700 B.C. Late Vedic period)

And we are told that the following three things will lead us to freedom and peace.

Ayurvada : Traditional Indian Medicine with 5000 years of history
Jyotisha : Indian Astrology
Puja : A religious ritual with the power to transform a person’s destiny (original meaning: sacrifice)

The preclarity (true nature) is determined by the distribution of the three gunas (components).

○Sattva (pure quality) = white
○Rajas (intense quality) = red
○Tamas (dark quality) = black

From the pure quality arises knowledge, and from the intense quality arises greed. From the dark quality arises negligence and delusion, and from the dark quality arises ignorance.”
(Bhagavat Gita, Chapter 14)

Those who depend on the purest qualities go upward, those who are intensely qualitative stop in the middle, and those who are dark qualitative, relying on the activity of the lowest element (guna), go downward.”
(Bhagavat Gita, Chapter 14, verse 18)

The 3 doshas (distribution of components)

Vata (lightness and movement – movement)
Pitta (heat and sharpness – metabolism)
Kapha (weight and stability – structure)

The fact that the three gunas (components of the mind) correspond to the three doshas (components of the body) of Ayurveda, the science of life that looks at human beings in terms of their physical condition, means that by changing the doshas, we can change the gunas from the body.

In other words, by changing the state of the body, we change the state of the mind.

Ayurvedic treatment, for example, can change the state of mind by making sattva and its corresponding vata predominant in you.

The following Panchakarma (Pancha = 5 Karma = action ) is the basic Ayurvedic treatment.

3. anuvasam – oil enema

5. vamana-medical vomiting

Although the above is the basis of the program, he said, the curriculum here is faithful to the curriculum handed down to him by his great-grandfather in Waidia through physical and oral traditions.

Below is the space where specific treatments such as massage are performed.
It looks like a dugout hut in the jungle.
I don’t know much about it, but it is a primitive, primitive world far removed from the celebrity-like image of esthetics that has been transmitted in Japan.

We were on the shortest course of two weeks, and to give a brief description of the process, the first and second days were spent cleansing the front of the body with sesame oil (3. Abhyanga).
Scrub and polish. And sweat like a swedlodge (1. Svedanam above).
And 6. navarakiri.
The picture below shows the box for 1. svedanam. Only the head is taken out. It is completely handmade, but no problem.
I usually boil a pot on a gas stove, extend a hose from the pot, put the hot steam into the pot, and steam all the parts except the head.

On the third day, I took a detoxifying oil made of special, uniquely prepared herbs, and then did 3. Abhyanga, followed by a full day of fasting. Anyway, I had diarrhea.
It was quite a nightmare, I felt like my ILLNESS (bad spirit) was squeezing out of me, and I saw a little bit of my inner madness.

And on the fourth day, again 3. abhyanga and 6. navarakiri. The body is in a state of letting go.

And from the 5th day, 10. shirodhara above.
To be honest, I thought that Shirodhara was definitely going to be bad from the information before I did it, but it was still bad as I expected.

To give you a rough idea, on days 5, 6, and 7, after massaging with sesame oil, you can continue to dab hot sesame oil on your forehead for 30 minutes, as described above. During that time, you will think about your “Past”.
On the 8th, 9th, and 10th day, after massaging with sesame oil as described above, hot milk will be poured on your forehead for 30 minutes. During that time, you will think about your “Present”.
Do not think about 10 years ago, 10 minutes ago, 3 years from now, or 3 minutes from now. Think only about “Now”.
It is difficult to think only about the here and now, and it was an interesting discussion.
On the 11th, 12th, and 13th days, after massaging with sesame oil as described above, I was given cold yogurt for 30 minutes. During that time, I thought about my “Future”.
Why milk? Why yogurt? I asked Wydia, and he replied, “Everyone knows that water is an important element, don’t they? Milk and the yogurt it is transformed into are also important elements in this world. That’s what my great-grandfather passed down to me, anyway”, he said.

In a sense, it is the essence of Ayurveda, which intervenes and treats even the spiritual realm.

As he also said, this so-called world is a westernized world, and doctors are, you know, the ones who wear white coats, diagnose patients, write prescriptions, administer medication, or perform surgery, and they are all called doctors.

But an Ayurvedic doctor is different.
They examine the patient, or rather the person they treat, based on his or her lifestyle, and consider his or her own past, present, and future, and imagine a “happy future” in which he or she can change his or her mind and body.

What in the world is most important to my future?
I was asked this question several times.

Suppose you grab a lot of money, live in a big house, and have the financial resources to buy anything you want.
But if you are not healthy, that is, if you are constantly in pain or in discomfort all the time, what good is all that stuff, they say.

The happiest future state or situation is one in which the body is healthy, loved, and has someone to love.

Before the 11th, 12th, and 13th days of Shirodhara, we are told to imagine such a “Future”.

This seems obvious, but I was personally impressed that this was actually something no one taught me.

Today, this world is tormented by fear and anxiety, whether due to the corona, the war, or the new world order, but I believe that this wisdom is an important and valuable consideration for us now.

Anyway, day 14 ended once again with 3. Abhyanga and a lot of sweat in the box and at Swedlodge (1. Svedanam).

In a way, it was a psychedelic and Dope experience, both physically and mentally.
His son, by the way, is 25 years old and is the heir of a so-called medical student who is still studying Ayurveda at the university.
His personality and character are perfect. He is a very gentle young man.

However, when I saw him constantly playing with his cell phone or riding around on the motorcycle his parents had bought him, I couldn’t deny that I felt a sense of shallowness.

Metaphorically speaking, I paid to come to a concert of my favorite musician, but “He can’t come out today. I’m his son, so thank you for your time.” He comes out on stage, if it’s good, it’s fine, but if he doesn’t fit the bill, it’s frankly unpleasant. I couldn’t stand the situation and consulted Wydia.

We discussed what the “difference” was, even though his actions were the same, and I was able to reconfirm that it had something to do with his life and spirit.
He has worked as an Ayurvedic practitioner in various places with his own hands since he was 15 years old, and has been used by foreigners, saved by foreigners, and created his current economic status, while having some bad experiences.

He and his family have been Christians for a long time (the spread of Christianity in India is said to be older than Islam).
And he personally has been affected by three accidents that could have killed him.

That he feels deeply that he is kept alive by God because of this experience, and that he is always grateful for this in his real life.
So, I can only say, the vibrations coming out of his hands feel like there is more than him. It made a lot of sense to me.
I have been listening to a lot of music myself, and especially in the world of folk music, the existence of “God” is indispensable.
In the pop world, gospel music, reggae music, and Bob Marley, a Rasta master, are also notable examples.
The music of Sufis, or Muslims, who are numerous not only in the Middle East but also in Africa, goes without saying.
Asia, South America, and Scandinavia.

Super-abilities that emerge from their connection with beings beyond their own existence.

This is true of the arts in general, and may also be related to what is called “intuition” or “inspiration,” which is an important source of judgment for people in all professions.
It is possible that some people may make “mistakes” due to mere self-absorption, but I believe that for people with certain special skills, it can be an important source of spiritual support. I am one of them.
How can I maximize and exceed my abilities without getting “lost” as much as possible?

This is another thing I had to think deeply about during this experience.
There is no doubt that Ayurveda itself is a fascinating wisdom/method, but I am convinced that the potential and mental state of the person handling it is also very important.

Anyway, although I have always been conscious of my body and spirit, I was able to catch a glimpse of Indian wisdom that surpassed my own imagination, and it was a meaningful experience that made me realize that I still have much to learn.
