いよいよ始まったレコーディング。
それと同時に、カイロで観て聴ける民族音楽ショー的なものも、色々と鑑賞した。

The recording finally started.
At the same time, I also watched and listened to various folk music show-like performances that can be seen and heard in Cairo.

ズィクルとは仏教で言う念仏に近いもので、国やエリア、部族によって割とバリエイションがあるみたいだが、
ここエジプトでは典型的な古典舞踊として、踊りを伴った念仏。
仏教でも踊り念仏、という言葉があるが、とにかく繰り返す行為自体がトランス性を含んでいて、
なお身体を駆使することでより高い次元に到達する、ということだと思う。

Dhikr is similar to the Nembutsu in Buddhism, and there are many variations depending on the Islam country, area, or tribe, but here in Egypt, the Chant is a typical classical dance, accompanied by dancing.
In Buddhism, there is a term called “Odori-Nembutsu (Dancing Nembutsu)”, and anyway, the act of repetition itself contains a trance-like quality, and by making full use of one’s body, one can reach a higher dimension.

個人的にはダンスと音楽が好物なので、願ったり叶ったりなスタイル笑。
Personally, I like dancing and music, so it’s a wishful thinking style lol

トランスというと、よだれ垂らして気が狂う、みたいなイメージで怖いものだと思う人もいるかもしれないが、聞いて貰えばわかると思うが、ホッコリしてる。そして楽しげだ。

Some people may think of trance as something scary, like drooling and going crazy, but if you listen to it, you’ll see that it’s heartwarming. And they seem to be having fun.

まさに大陸的。
密室的な、島国的なノリではなく、おおらかというかスケールがデカイ。

決して浅いわけではないけど、重すぎないのがエジプトのノリなのかもしれない。

It is truly continental.
It is not a closed-off, island-like atmosphere, but rather a generous or large scale.

It is not shallow by any means, but maybe it is the Egyptian groove that is not too heavy.

とにかく絶妙な民謡感もあり、内容的には完全に宗教的な歌詞だと思うが、華やか。
改めて素晴らしい！

Anyway, it also has an exquisite folk feel to it, and I think the lyrics are completely religious in content, but gorgeous.
Once again, wonderful!

そしてお次は
And next

タンヌーラ
Tannoura

ズィクルにおける舞踊をより特化して、なおかつハードコアに回って（旋回）、
より高い次元にトランスしようということだと思う。

I think it’s more about specializing the dance in the dhikr and still going hardcore (circling), and transcend to a higher dimension.

上記のズィクル同様とにかく音楽がいい！
Like dhikr above, the music is just as good!

ちなみに個人的にはこのラインの音楽と舞踊を何もわからず映像（映画）として見せつけられたのがVENGOだ。
By the way, VENGO is the one that personally showed me this line of music and dance as a video (film) without knowing anything about it.

2001年にこの映画を見て本当に衝撃を受けた。
I was really shocked when I saw this film in 2001.

個人的な音楽嗜好のレベルをアップデートされ、古代と現代が繋がり、宗教や価値観も音楽の中で溶解してしまう。

The level of personal musical tastes is updated, the ancient and the modern are connected, and religions and values dissolve in the music.

冒頭の葬式のシーンで完全にジャックされた。
I was completely jacked in by the funeral scene at the beginning of the film.

その葬式のシーンがつまり、このズィクルであり、タンヌーラなのだ。
The funeral scene, in other words, is this dhikr and tannura.

それをここエジプトで完全に理解し始める。
言わずもがな長い歴史の中、イスラム以前の宗教も含め、古代から連なる音楽＝儀式というリアリティー。

I begin to fully understand it here in Egypt.
It goes without saying that in the long history, the reality of “music = rituals” that have been passed down from ancient times, including those of pre-Islamic religions.

あくまでこれはお金を払って観る『ショー』なわけだが、それでも十分にその事を感じとれる。
This is a “show” that you pay to see, but even so, you can feel it well enough.

先述した様にエジプトは飯はまずい！（しつこい）が、音楽に関しては本当に最高な場所だと確信を深める。
As I mentioned earlier, the food is bad in Egypt! (persistent), but I am more and more convinced that it is really a great place when it comes to music.

とにかくこの様な催し物はしょっちゅうやっている印象だったが、コロナでどうなっているだろうか。
Anyway, I had the impression that such events were held frequently, but I wonder what is going on in Corona.

おそらく古代から図太く生きてきたカイロっ子達は、移ろいゆく製薬会社の陰謀などものともせず
たくましく生きていることだろう。
Perhaps the Cairo children, who have lived bravely since ancient times, are living robustly, oblivious to the shifting conspiracies of the pharmaceutical companies.

そんなザ！カイロな催し物。

失念したが、インドネシアかどこかのムスリムミュージシャンが担ぎ出され晒されてしまっているが笑今回の滞在時には及川さんも、ミュージシャンだと誰かが紹介してしまったのをネタにされ、いきなり客席から呼び出され、誰ともしれない地元ミュージシャンのヴァイオリンを渡され、いきなり演奏させられる、というまさに修羅場（笑）も体験した。

I forgot to mention but a Muslim musician from Indonesia or somewhere has been carried and exposed, lol Ms. Oikawa, too, was introduced as a musician by someone during her stay this time, and was suddenly called out from the audience and given a violin by a local musician whom we did not know, and was forced to perform out of the blue, which was a real hell experience lol

いずれにしろエジプトで生きるのはタフなことだ。
In any case, living in Egypt is tough.

でも音楽のクオリティーが高いというか、
まさに地に足がついた音楽が今も根付いていることがすばらしい。
But it is wonderful that the quality of the music, or rather the very grounding of the music, is still taking root.

タクシーに乗ると若いドライバーは激爆音でアラビア語のヒップホップみたいな音楽、シャービーも聴いているし、それはそれで大好物だったが、やはり時代を超越する音に出会えるのは最高だ。
When I took a cab, the young driver was listening to Arabic hip-hop-like music and Sherby, which was my favorite, but it was still great to encounter timeless sounds.

いま自分がどの時代にいるのか…、時間の感覚がおかしくなる様な世界、
その後いろいろと関わることになるエジプト原住民『ヌビア』の音楽もここで聴く事ができた。
A world that makes you wonder what era you are in …and your sense of time is strange.
I was also able to listen to the music of “Nubia,” an Egyptian aborigine with whom I would later become involved in various ways.

Nubian Music&Dance

ヌビアは日本でいうエミシやアイヌ、琉球民族に近い印象。
どこかホッコリしてる。
I have the impression that Nubia is similar to the Emishi, Ainu, and Ryukyu peoples in Japan.
They are somewhat relaxed.

昔はどこもホッコリしてたんだよな。
It used to be felt comfortable everywhere.

そんな古代音楽の最たるものザール。
Zar is the best example of such ancient music.

及川さんからの情報だと、イスラムでは五人まで奥さんを持つことができる（逆に言うとリミットが五人と言うことで、イスラム以前では経済的な余裕があれば１００人でも娶れた）
その妻達を平等に扱うこともクルアーン（コーラン）には明記されているが、それでも差ができてしまい、それに病んだ女達の邪気を払う目的で、女性用のハーレムに入って演奏する女性演奏集団…、それが “ザール” ということだったと思う。

Ms. Oikawa informed me that in Islam, one can have up to five wives. (Conversely, the limit is five wives. Before Islam, a man could take as many as 100 wives if he could afford them.)
The Quran (Koran) clearly states that these wives are to be treated equally, but still there is a difference between them, and for the purpose of driving away the evil spirits of the sick women, a group of women performers enter a women’s harem and perform…that was called “Zar”, I remember like that.

ちなみにこれも観光客用のショーとしてのザールのコンサート？なので、男性の演奏者もいた。
1932年にエジプトのカイロで開催されたアラブ音楽会議で、訪れたルーマニアの偉大な作曲家であり編集者のバルトークが、ザールの演奏を聞いて偉く感動した、と言う話も後で知った。

Also, by the way, this is another Zar concert as a show for tourists? So there were also male performers.
I later learned that Bartok, a great Romanian composer and editor who visited the Arab Music Conference held in Cairo, Egypt in 1932, was very much impressed by Zar’s performance.

基本パターンは最初はゆっくりと始まり、どんどんヒートアップしていき、最後まさに邪気を払うかの如く爆発して終わる。
1曲終わるたびに確かに爽快な気分になる。

The basic pattern starts out slow, heats up, and ends with an explosion as if to dispel the evil spirits.
It is indeed an exhilarating feeling after each song.

先ほどの話を知ってかお客さんも圧倒的に女性が多く、９０％以上地元ではなく外国の、主に西欧の観光客だと思うが、最後にショーが終わると女性達が４０人くらい笑顔で、この演奏者の女性と嬉しそうに写真を撮っていたのが今も印象に残る。

Knowing what I just said, the audience was overwhelmingly female, and I think more than 90% of them were not locals but foreign, mainly Western European tourists, but I still remember that when the show ended, about 40 women were smiling and happily taking pictures with this performer woman.

現代も男性よりも女性の方がストレスを抱えることが多いと言うことなのだろうか。
大変興味深いし、とにかく男性である自分でもザールは本当に素晴らしいと思った。
Deepなのに最終的に爽快な気分になるなんてある意味最高なことだと思う。

Does it mean that even today, women are more stressed than men?
Very interesting and anyway, even as a male myself, I thought Zar was really great.
In a way it is great to finally feel exhilarated in spite of being Deep.

その会場でCDなどと一緒に下記の写真集？も売っていたので購入。
The following photo book? was sold at the venue along with CDs and other items, so I bought it.

まだ付け焼き刃だが、エジプト音楽のエッセンスを感じられ、その奥深さをまさに体感する体験の連続の中いよいよ。。
Although it’s still a little bit new to me, I can feel the essence of Egyptian music and am now in the midst of a series of experiences that will allow me to truly experience the depth of the music and finally…

2015年から始まった怒濤の９ヶ月連続ヴァイナルリリースは大きな話題になり、その影響でベルリン／イスラエルのレーベルMalka Tutiなどからワールドワイドにリリースされ、DJ TASAKAとのHIGHTIME Inc.、Nitro Microphone UndergroundのMACKA-CHINとPART2STYLEのMaLとのユニットZEN RYDAZ、Minilogue/Son KiteのMarcus HenrikssonとKuniyukiとのユニットMYSTICSなど、そのオリジナルなヴィジョンは、あらゆるジャンルをまたぎ、拡散し続けている。また音楽制作のみならず、映像作品、絵本や画集のプロデュース、野外フェスOoneness Camp”縄文と再生”を企画するなど活動は多岐に渡る。

Born in Tokyo, he started playing in bands and DJing at the same time when he was 15. As a DJ, his innovative and original style and his activities have quickly expanded from huge festivals to underground parties both in Japan and abroad. In 2003, he went on a recording tour with local musicians in Cuba, and since then he has been recording all over the world, and started his own label, Crosspoint, as a new guideline for New World Music.
In music production, he has also produced video works, picture books and art books, and organized the outdoor festival “Jomon and Rebirth” in 2012.
9 consecutive months of vinyl releases in 2015 became a big topic, and his fourth album was released at the end of that year, which led to the worldwide release of his new album on the Berlin/Israeli label Malka Tuti.
